You have stumbled upon one of the greatest ministries of Florence Baptist Temple, the Young at Heart class. The Young at Heart class started as an extension of all of our classes as a ministry geared to those more “seasoned” than some. The class began in 1988 and Gary and Doris Wells have been the class leaders since its inception. The Wells’ have truly shown their heart in the faithful leading of the class for over 20 years!
The main purpose of the Young at Heart class is to make every effort to help one another in the walk with God. This is accompoished through the teaching of His Word, supporting and bearing the burdens of one another, praying for one another, and above all, loving one another.
We have been blessed with a great band that sings for us every Sunday in our class. This talented group ministers to us through ageless songs and hymns that we have all grown to love and remember. You will no doubt enjoy their ministry and have your heart lifted by their singing.
Our class members love to keep in contact with one another through various visitation ministries. If you are sick or in the hospital, be ready for people to contact you to see if they can help you in any way possible. We care for each other because we are a family and that’s what families should do!
We are a giving group of people in the Young at Heart class. Though many of us are unable to go and do mission work ourselves, we can still do our part to show the love of God to the world. Through a combined effort of our class, we were able to give over $12,000 in the past year to support 112 mission works around the globe. We are thankful to God that he has given us the ability to serve through our missions work.
Now if you do not want to be active, you better watch out because we believe that fun is essential to life! Birdella Armstrong is our activity director and she keep us moving like never before! We take numerous trips within a moderate distance from Boone County where we visit state parks, Amish country, Renfro Valley, and other exciting places of interest.
Everyone contributes to the Young at Heart class in a special way. There are many who can not attend due to health or other causes. There are some who have moved to another geographic location, but are not forgotten. There have been some who have moved farther away, to Heaven, but are surely not forgotten. No matter where you fit in life, we all make up the Young at Heart class of Florence Baptist Temple.
